Truffle Dog Lab A living experiment in training dogs to find native North American truffles Welcome to the Truffle Dog Lab, a collaborative space dedicated to developing and documenting methods for training dogs to locate native truffles across the Eastern United States and beyond. While truffle dog training is well established in Europe and the PNW, there is very little information available for working with native species like Imaia pachyascus, Tuber canaliculatum, and Tuber lyonii, and other newly described valuable truffles. This community exists to change that. Inside the Lab, we are actively building and testing protocols in real time: Scent imprinting using oils, extracts, and fresh material Training dogs without direct access to wild truffles Comparing synthetic vs natural aromatic profiles Field testing and early foraging attempts Sharing wins, failures, and refinements as they happen This is not a static course; it is a live research environment.
